Tanner Pollock discusses his decision to transfer to Iowa
After a standout career at Drake, linebacker Tanner Pollock will be transferring to the University of Iowa in 2023. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Pollock, who has two years of eligibility remaining, announced his decision this weekend.
“I entered the portal a week after the Drake 2022 season ended,” Pollock told HawkeyeReport.com. “The reason I entered is because I knew I was graduating and thought I could play at a higher level.”
Pollock, who had 100 tackles, 5.5 TFL, and two interceptions last season, made sure to explore all of his options, but when an opportunity to join the Hawkeyes as a preferred walk-on came in, it was too good to pass up.
“I visited Iowa State and had a visit planned to North Dakota State,” said Pollock. “I had a few other full rides to FCS schools, but I wanted to follow my heart. I decided on Iowa as a preferred walk-on to bet on myself and earn a scholarship because it was something I’ve always wanted to do since I was a little kid.”

With the ability to play all three linebacker positions as well as special teams, the Iowa coaching staff likes Pollock’s versatility and can see him helping the program.
“The Iowa staff really liked my film and thought I was a really versatile player that can play a lot of different positions,” Pollock said. “I’m just excited to get in a Big Ten football program and represent and the Tigerhawk.”
A graduate of Waterloo West High School in 2019, Pollock is happy to be a Hawkeye.
“I’m really excited for the opportunity to compete and represent the state of Iowa,” said Pollock.
