The Hawkeyes will begin their run at the NCAA Tournament short of full strength. First reported by Jeff Linder of the Cedar Rapids Gazette, Iowa will be without freshman forward Teagan Mallegni, who is in concussion protocol after colliding with a teammate in practice earlier in the week. She is considered to be day-to-day. Mallegni did not make the trip to Norman with team, but, if cleared, could fly down later in the weekend if the Hawkeyes advance to the second round on Monday.

As a true freshman, Mallegni has appeared in 30 of 32 games this season, averaging 3.2 points, 2.1 rebounds and 8.8 minutes per game. She put up a season-high 14 points in the season opener against Northern Illinois and knocked down a season-high three triples in the Hawkeyes win at Drake. Teagan grabbed a season-high eight rebounds against Ohio State and recently finished with five points and six rebounds at the Big Ten Tournament against Wisconsin.

Jan Jensen likely will not have to change her rotation up very much, if at all, as Mallegni has played 10+ minutes in just three of the last 15 games she has appeared in. If Syd Affolter were to find herself in any foul trouble, the coaching staff would likely move Hannah Stuelke to the power forward spot and go with Addi O’Grady or Ava Heiden at center.
