Vitti makes college decision
Class of 2026 defensive back Marcello Vitti has made his college decision. The four-star prospect announced his verbal commitment to the University of Iowa tonight after making a game day visit with the Hawkeyes this past weekend.
A true playmaker on both sides of the ball in high school, the 6-foot-0, 190-pound Vitti finished his junior season with 1,614 total yards and 25 touchdowns on offense along with 76 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 10 pass breakups on defense.
“Total class of a young man,” Divine Child head coach Chris Laney told HawkeyeReport.com. “Dominates not only on the field, but in the classroom, the locker room, the weight room, etc.”
“He’s an extremely driven young man,” Laney continued. “Has many of the same attributes that Aidan Hutchinson had when he played for us.”
A four-star prospect, Vitti chose Iowa over scholarship offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Tennessee, Boston College, West Virginia, Kentucky, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Auburn, Arkansas, Minnesota, Maryland, Wisconsin, Wake Forest, Indiana, Northwestern, and Kansas, among others.

“Iowa is getting an absolute slam dunk,” said Laney. “He trusts Coach Parker and the staff to develop him and dreams of playing in the NFL.”
In his statement, Vitti cited his game day visit to Iowa City on Friday, where he saw the Hawkeyes beat Nebraska 13-10 in a defensive battle, as a major factor in his decision.
“With all of the college football opportunities that I have been blessed to have, on Friday night I knew that it was my destiny to be a Hawkeye!” Vitti wrote. “I want to work my way to being a part of the DB legacy that Coach Parker has developed and to eventually play a leadership role in winning a national championship!”
Overall, Vitti is commitment No. 3 for the Hawkeyes in the Class of 2026 as he joins offensive tackle Carson Nielsen and quarterback Cash Herrera on Iowa’s early list.
