It was an inconsistent, but effective performance for the Iowa women’s basketball team on Sunday, as they picked up an 84-63 win over Purdue. The Hawkeyes had stretches of good play, headlined by some great nights from the freshmen, but they also had some poor stretches that allowed the Boilermakers to keep it interesting for the better part of three quarters. Iowa moves to 11-2 on the season and 1-1 in Big Ten play, with a meeting against Penn State set for Wednesday in State College.

Head coach Jan Jensen met with the media after the win, discussing the ups and downs of the game, the play of her freshman class, including details on the growth of Taylor Stremlow, Aaliyah Guyton and Ava Heiden. She also spoke about the passing of former Hawkeye Jamie Cavey Lang and Purdue head coach Katie Gearlds gifting flowers to the team prior to the game.

We also got to talk with freshmen Taylor Stremlow and Aaliyah Guyton. Guyton was battling some voice issues, but spoke about her role coming off the bench, while Stremlow talked about her play in particular, as well as the freshmen group as a whole.
