WATCH: Jan Jensen, Hawkeyes recap their win over Northern Iowa
There were some stressful moments down the stretch on Friday night, but the Hawkeyes were able to pull out a high-scoring 92-86 win over in-state rival Northern Iowa. A close game was expected coming into the night, but losing an 18-point third quarter lead is what led to much of the stress late in the contest. Iowa heads into the Christmas break with a 10-2 record, with 17 Big Ten games facing them on the other side.
Head coach Jan Jensen met with the media after the game, speaking about the play of Maya McDermott for UNI, the play of Taylor McCabe and Addi O’Grady, as well as why these in-state games are so important.
We also got to speak with Lucy Olsen and Taylor McCabe in the postgame press conference. Olsen finished with a team-high 21 points and seven assists. She talked about what it was like going up against Maya McDermott and how they were able to close the game out. McCabe totaled 15 points on five made threes. She discussed flourishing in her role off the bench and what UNI did to get back into the game in the second half.
