It was far from the prettiest season-opener for the Iowa Women’s Basketball team, but the result they got, wasn’t much different than what was expected. The visiting Southern Lady Jaguars press, and physicality muddied the game up for a bit, but it finally got rolling for the Hawkeyes. A 17-0 run broke the game open in the second quarter, while Iowa ran away in the second half outscoring Southern 49-27 en route to an 86-51 opening night victory.

Hannah Stuelke and Ava Heiden were the stars of the game combining for 41 points and 23 rebounds. They met with the media after to discuss their nights, dealing with the Southern pressure and how they’ve tried to improve their respective games.

Head coach Jan Jensen also spoke with the media giving her thoughts on the season-opening win, how her team handled the pressure of game one, improvements on the defensive end from the exhibition game and more.
