WATCH: Payton Sandfort, Drew Thelwell preview Big Ten play
Not playing in a Feast Week tournament gave the Hawkeyes an early chance to step back and relax before the beginning of Big Ten play. When they take the floor for their Big Ten opener against Northwestern on Tuesday night, it will have been a full week since their win over USC-Upstate. The Hawkeyes are hoping the break will lead to some success, as they are 0-6 over the last three seasons in December Big Ten games.
Payton Sandfort met with the media on Monday afternoon to discuss how the team has been handling the injury bug, looking to get the monkey off their back in December Big Ten games, and what he has learned from those tough stretches the last couple of seasons.
We also spoke with Drew Thelwell, who talked about his experience against Big Ten teams while at Morehead State, how he can carry those experiences over to this season and how he’s had to change his mindset as a player off the bench.
