WATCH: Payton Sandfort, Ladji Demble discuss the loss to Iowa State
The Hawkeyes came out on fire hitting nearly every shot that they took, which propelled them to a 39-26 lead in the first half. Iowa State clawed their way back into the game and eventually tied it with around five minutes to play. Down the stretch, the Cyclones hit the big shots and got the big stops to come away with an 89-80 win.
Payton Sandfort was one of five Hawkeyes that scored in double figures, finishing with 13 points and five rebounds. He spoke with the media after the game, discussing what went wrong down the stretch and the team’s ability to answer ISU’s runs in the first half. Sandfort also gave props to Ladji Dembele and what the mindset for the team is going forward.
We also talked with Ladji Dembele after the game. Coming off the bench for the first time this season, he finished with 11 points, including three made threes, while he pulled down four rebounds. Dembele spoke briefly about moving back to the bench, what this game did for his personal confidence and more.
