Diondre Smith

Florida wide receiver Diondre Smith has made his college decision. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Neptune Beach native announced today that he has verbally committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes following a visit to campus this past weekend.

A three-star prospect, Smith finished his junior year at Fletcher High School with 39 catches for 473 yards and six touchdowns. Also a playmaker on special teams, he had 263 return yards and one touchdown on a kick return last season.

“Diondre is one of the top players that I have ever coached,” said Fletcher head coach Ciatrick Fason. “The way he accelerate from 0-100 is the quickest that I have ever seen at the high school level. The kid has exceptional ball skills and does a great job of tracking the ball in the air.”

“More than just football, the kid is an amazing person,” Fason continued. “He takes school just as serious as he does football, which shows by his 3.2 GPA. He’s an amazing leader and his actions make younger athletes follow his lead.”

During the recruiting process. Smith earned scholarship offers from Iowa, Miami, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Maryland, Indiana, Michigan State, Central Florida, South Florida, Florida International, Tulane, Florida International, Florida Atlantic, Connecticut, East Carolina, Bowling Green, Liberty, Western Kentucky, Appalachian State, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Delaware, and Massachusetts.

“The thing that separated Iowa from the other schools who recruited Diondre was that when Iowa first came down and offered him, they were very vocal about how much they wanted him,” said Fason. “He took visits to a few of the other schools that offered him, and at a couple of those, he didn’t even meet with the offensive coordinator or head coach. When he went to Iowa, he met with everyone, and they made him and his pops feel like they were already a part of the family.”

Overall, Smith is commitment No. 8 for the Hawkeyes in the Class of 2026 as he joins offensive linemen Carson NielsenHudson ParliamentOwen Linder, and Colin Whitters, quarterback Cash Herrera, wide receiver Brody Schaffer, and defensive back Marcello Vitti on Iowa’s early list.

“I always tell my players pick your fit, and he told me Iowa was his fit,” Fason said.
