Cornerback transfer Tyler Nelome commits to Kansas State
Kansas State has added another transfer in the 2023 cycle. Southeast Missouri State defensive back Tyler Nelome picks the Wildcats over an offer list that also included Louisville, West Virginia, Washington, Illinois State, Western Kentucky and Georgia Tech.
Remember, he’s a native of Atlanta. That means K-State defeating the Yellow Jackets for his services is particularly impressive. But since Chris Klieman and company already landed Keagan Johnson from Iowa, Nelome isn’t even the best transfer recruiting win of the cycle considering the other players involved for Johnson.
Like it usually does in the transfer portal, it moved very quickly between Kansas State and Nelome. He was offered by the Wildcats on May 3. He then took his official visit the weekend before announcing his commitment.
Ironically, his first game for K-State will come against his former school. Kansas State kicks off their 2023 season against Southeast Missouri State on September 2 in Manhattan where they will likely recognize the Big 12 championship from last year.
Last season for the Redhawks, Nelome tallied 25 tackles, grabbed one interception and broke up five passes in 10 games. For his career, the FCS star has recorded 45 tackles, eight pass break-ups and an interception.

K-State is no stranger to adding players late in the secondary. Nelome makes it three consecutive years that the Wildcats have added a transfer defensive back after spring football concluded. All three have also come from the FCS ranks.
In 2021, Reggie Stubblefield committed to Kansas State and Drake Cheatum chose the Wildcats a year later. Stubblefield went on to earn an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection in 2021 and Cheatum started in all 14 games for K-State last season. He finished second on the team in tackles with 74.
Nelome is the fifth addition from the transfer portal for Kansas State in the 2023 cycle. He joins Johnson, Jevon Banks, Treshaun Ward and Marques Sigle who are already in Manhattan after going through spring football.
He will have two years of eligibility remaining when he sets foot in The Little Apple.
