First guess: Kansas State defensive depth chart

Throughout Kansas State training camp we will periodically make projections on the team’s offensive and defensive depth chart. It will be relegated to our message board at KSO and will attempt to give the most up-to-date looks of what the lineups could be look in week one versus UT-Martin.
Our first effort on the defensive side of the ball comes just a couple days after the first offensive try. To clarify, we continue to accumulate more intel and collect more insight that give us a more and more clearer picture of how things look.
There are a few true K-State position battles. One of those is one of the defensive end spots. We assume that senior Brendan Mott will lay claim to one. It’s a free-for-all at the second one with many different options to consider.
LINK: Intense Kansas State defensive end battle
I didn’t think we would have a starting job battle in the middle of the K-State defense in 2024, but that is absolutely the case. Some of it is Alec Marenco, who was injury-prone at New Mexico, is already banged up. How healthy will he be? Oh, and Austin Romaine is continuously ascending.
Iron sharpens iron?
LINK: Surprise at inside linebacker
Is Asa Newsom ready to contribute after injury? Will Kansas State get anything out of Rex Van Wyhe and Kam Sallis? Linebacker depth on the outside is an interesting exercise at the moment. We’ll learn more later in training camp.

Kansas State head coach Chris Klieman loves starting cornerbacks Keenan Garber and Jacob Parrish. He’s also had very complimentary things to say about Justice James. How will the rest of the room shake out?
