Kansas State adds guard Abdi Bashir Jr.

Kansas State has landed its first transfer portal addition. Monmouth guard Abdi Bashir Jr has committed to K-State.
The announcement from Bashir came a bit out of the blue. The Nebraska native did not take any visits and not much was known about his recruitment. According to Sam Kayser of 24/7 High School Hoops Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky, Memphis, Michigan, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Providence, UCLA, USC, Virginia, Rutgers, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, NC State, Arizona State and Mississippi State were all showing interest in Bashir.
Simply put, Bashir gets buckets. He had 18 games this season of 20 or more points including four games of 30 or more this season for Monmouth. His best statistical game came against Rutgers where the guard scored 38 points and made 10 three-pointers. He also scored 20 points at Michigan State, 28 at Seton Hall and 15 at Auburn, so he has played a handful of games versus high major competition.
The Nebraska native was also the nation’s leader during the regular season in three point makes with 127. He has since been passed by Honor Huff of Chattanooga during the Mocs’ NIT run. Bashir also ranks No. 2 in three point field goals attempted with 332 on the season and shot at a 38.3 percent clip. For the season, the sophomore averaged 20.1 points ranking No. 15 nationally along with 2.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists.

His sophomore campaign was his breakout season to this point. As a freshman Bashir averaged 6.3 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.3 assists while playing just 13 minutes per game. The shooting percentage, though, was around the same as this season where he shot the three at a 38.9 percent clip as a freshman.
Bashir is the first portal commit for Kansas State this spring. In total, he is actually the second portal commit after K-State landed Tyreek Smith during the fall. He’s also joining high school commits Exavier Wilson and Ashton Magee. Bashir has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
