Kansas State just won the Big 12 Championship in Arlington, Texas by defeating TCU in overtime, but the work never stops on the recruiting trail. In fact, their recent achievements and successful season could spur more action.

The Wildcats added another prospect to the 2023 recruiting class with the commitment of Iowa Central Community College linebacker Rex Van Wyhe. He is quite the physical specimen at 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds.

His verbal pledge to K-State comes on the heels of his official visit to Manhattan for the Sunflower Showdown. Van Wyhe was on hand for K-State defeating Kansas for the 14th consecutive season. He is the 23rd commit of the class and the second junior college prospect, joining cornerback Will Lee.

It came together quickly for the two sides. The Iowa native actually visited Kansas State without a scholarship offer, but received one during the trip and committed to the Wildcats on the spot and waited until after the season to announce it.

The newest K-State commit also held offers from Old Dominion, Southeast Missouri, Northern Iowa, Missouri State, Iowa State and UTSA. Obviously, his lone other Power Five offer came from Matt Campbell and the Cyclones.

He is also the third linebacker in the 2023 class for Kansas State, joining high school linebackers Austin Romaine and Collin Dunn.

Van Wyhe tallied 73 tackles this season, along with 3.5 sacks and forced three fumbles in 10 games for the Tritons. The linebacker also will have four years to play three seasons at K-State, as he was a full qualifier out of high school.
