Kansas State adds top transfer big Achor Achor

Kansas State continues to add to its basketball roster with the addition of former Samford forward Achor Achor.

The decision for Achor comes in a sprint of a recruitment. Achor entered the transfer portal the last day it was open May 1. Many schools were interested in the Melbourne, Australia native. Most notably Auburn, Louisville and Oklahoma were in hot pursuit of Achor.

Achor had a successful two seasons at Samford playing for the Bulldogs. This season the junior really took a jump in production. The Australia native averaged 16.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game. He also shot 58.6 percent from the field and 43 percent from three-point range.

His career high in points came against Western Carolina this season where he posted 35 points along with 10 rebounds and two blocks. Samford played two games against power competition this season, in the season opener against Purdue, Achor scored six points while hauling in seven rebounds. In the NCAA Tournament against Kansas, the junior tallied 23 points and eight rebounds while shooting 40 percent from the floor.

As a sophomore, Achor averaged 6.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest in 30 games recording one start. His season high in points as a sophomore came against Alabama A&M tallying 18 points and eight rebounds in 21 minutes coming off the bench for the Bulldogs.

Before his two seasons at Samford, the Australian spent two seasons at Chipola College in Florida. At Chipola, Achor helped lead the Indians to the NJCAA Final Four both years he spent there. He was also teammates with former Kansas State wing Nae’Qwan Tomlin in 2020-21 at Chipola.

Overall Achor is the seventh player to announce their transfer to K-State. He joins Dug McDaniel, CJ Jones, Brendan Hausen, Baye Fall, Max Jones and Mobi Ikegwuruka to announce their transfer commitments to the Wildcats. According to the On3 Industry Ranking (a combination of all four recruiting services), Achor is ranked the No. 32 player in the transfer portal. He is also the No. 7 player among players still available in the transfer portal.
