Roster cuts may be a thing in college sports, and not loved by head coach Chris Klieman, but it also hasn’t stopped Kansas State from reinforcing their roster when it needs it. They’ve attacked both the offensive line and running back spots in the portal.

It has it’s first prize of the spring, as Penn State transfer lineman JB Nelson has committed to K-State instead of taking the other Power Four options at his disposal. He made the decision after taking an official visit to Manhattan over the weekend.

Nelson will be expected to provide depth at both guard and tackle for the Wildcats. Though he was primarily an interior lineman in Happy Valley for the Nittany Lions, he can play offensive tackle in a pinch as well. He started eight games in 2023 and appeared in all 16 games (no starts) in 2024.

Kansas State has worked on adding depth to the offensive line since Brian Lepak was named as the replacement to Conor Riley. They initially added Wagner offensive tackle transfer Brandon Sneh, but he has since already left K-State.

The Wildcats do have a position battle ongoing at right tackle where injuries have hit, in addition to attrition, and redshirt freshman Gus Hawkins is in the mix. Nelson could provide depth to that battle or just work on the interior further and allow someone else to slide outside, such as Andrew Leingang.

It is possible he is not the last offensive lineman added by Kansas State.
