Kansas State announced seven captains for this year’s 2023 football season on Monday. Remember, they sent four to represent the team at Big 12 Media Days in quarterback Will Howard, linebacker Daniel Green, safety Kobe Savage and offensive lineman Cooper Beebe.

Those four were also selected captains by their K-State coaches and teammates. Joining them will be three others, as the Wildcats will have three captains on offense, three on defense and a special teams representative as well.

The other Kansas State captain on offense is senior center Hayden Gillum and the other defensive captain is linebacker Austin Moore. In his final season in Manhattan, Seth Porter was also named a captain for the Wildcats.

K-State head coach Chris Klieman had previously stated that he was curious as to who would be chosen by their peers. He knew that he had a great culture full of leadership up and down the roster and many would be up for consideration. That is likely why as many as seven were picked.

Particularly assistant Conor Riley has to be proud for having two at his position being recognized in that manner, and the same would be for Kansas State linebackers coach Steve Stanard.

Howard has spearheaded the offseason for the Wildcats. Green is a sixth year senior that has had incredible growth in Manhattan and was a captain last season. Beebe is an All-American, Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year two-time first team All-Big 12 choice and future NFL Draft pick.

Savage is a passionate football player that has been a captain for his teams at every level of football that he has played. Gillum is another sixth year senior that is one of the more outspoken leaders for K-State. Moore leads more by example but one of the more respected guys in the locker room, and one of the reasons that Porter returned to Manhattan for another season was for the opportunity to be a captain.

Congratulations to those seven men.
