A third Kansas State player has been chosen in the NFL Draft on Saturday. With the fourth pick of the sixth round, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers chose defensive back Josh Hayes at No. 181. He follows K-State players Felix Anudike-Uzomah and Julius Brents.

Anudike-Uzomah was chosen by the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round and Brents was a second round pick of the Indianapolis Colts.

Like Brents, Hayes was a transfer addition for Kansas State and used in the secondary. That makes him the third transfer defensive back for K-State to be chosen in the NFL Draft. Russ Yeast was chosen by the Los Angeles Rams a year ago.

After playing cornerback at both of his stops at North Dakota State and Virginia, Hayes switched to safety at Kansas State for Chris Klieman and Joe Klanderman and it was a perfect match between the two sides.

Remember, Hayes played for Klieman in Fargo as well.

In his 13 games in Manhattan, Hayes recorded 71 tackles at K-State. He also deflected seven passes for the Wildcats.

Also like Anudike-Uzomah and Brents, Hayes was drafted by his local team and will play in his home area. Anudike-Uzomah will stay in Kansas City and Brents will return to Indianapolis. Hayes grew up in the Tampa area of Florida.

It is important to know that Buccaneers’ head coach Todd Bowles was at the Kansas State Pro Day.
