Kansas State continues its tear in the transfer portal. Former Alabama edge rusher Jayshawn Ross has committed to K-State.

Ross’ announcement comes just three days after entering the transfer portal after his true freshman season at Alabama. Kansas State wasted no time showing interest in the Alabama transfer and made him a major priority.

If the name sounds familiar, K-State actually recruited Ross out of high school. The Missouri native was a major target for the Wildcats as a high school prospect in the class of 2024. He took an official visit to Kansas State during the season taking place October 20 of 2023. There was such strong interest between the two sides, K-State likely finished second in his high school recruitment.

This season, Ross only saw action in one game for Alabama as a true freshman. He saw his first collegiate snaps versus Mercer in November but did not record any stats. What is interesting about the Kansas City native is he provides a bit of positional versatility. He can play defensive end, but also can play a bit of outside linebacker. He played a position similar to the ‘Sam’ linebacker position for the Crimson Tide.

Edge rusher was not necessarily a need for Kansas State entering the 2025 season. At defensive end, every player returns for the Wildcats outside of Brendan Mott. At ‘Sam’ linebacker Desmond Purnell returns and Ralph Ortiz is still a major target. However, Ross is likely viewed as a best player available situation and K-State liked the true freshman so much they could not turn him away.

In total, Ross is commitment No. 10 for the Wildcats in the transfer portal. He joins the transfer class of Oklahoma corner Jayden Rowe, Purdue wideout Jaron Tibbs, Moss, Ohio State linebacker Gabe Powers, Boston College wideout Jerand Bradley, USC offensive lineman Amos Talalele, Arizona safety Gunner Maldonado, Nebraska running back Gabe Ervin and South Alabama corner Amarion Fortenberry.

Ross has four seasons of eligibility remaining.
