The Big 12 Conference released their preseason media projections on Thursday afternoon. After finishing with the second-most players on the preseason All-Big 12 Team that was released on Wednesday, Kansas State has been picked to finish second in the league.

Texas is projected to win the conference, tallying 41 first place votes. The Wildcats received 14 first place votes. The two schools were separated by just 28 points in the final count and separated themselves quite a bit from the rest of the field.

Second place is the highest that K-State has been projected in the preseason media poll since 2004. Last season, Kansas State was predicted to finish fifth in the league before ultimate winning the Big 12 Championship Game against TCU.

Six different teams in the Big 12 received a first place vote. The Longhorns received 41, K-State netted 14, Oklahoma and Texas Tech each were given four, TCU received three and Oklahoma State surprisingly caught a first place vote as well.

It is a massive sign of respect for Kansas State, that after losing two All-Americans, the league’s media still slotted them in the second spot. It has been a constant the entire offseason for the Wildcats, and it has culminated with preseason awards, too.

K-State running back Treshaun Ward was tabbed as the Preseason Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, in addition to All-Conference honors being designated to Kobe Savage, Cooper Beebe, Ben Sinnott and Phillip Brooks.

Big 12 Media Days kick off July 12 in Arlington, Texas. Kansas State will be represented by Will Howard, Daniel Green, Beebe, Savage and of course head coach Chris Klieman.
