Kansas State RB Treshaun Ward named preseason Big 12 Newcomer of the Year

The conference released their preseason awards and All-Big 12 awards on Wednesday afternoon. In addition to having four players chosen for the first team, Kansas State also had running back Treshaun Ward named as the leagues Newcomer of the Year.
Ward picked K-State in the offseason over a number of other Power Five options after leaving Tallahassee and entering the transfer portal. He will presumably share a Kansas State backfield with teammate DJ Giddens in 2023.
He also was part of a timeshare with the Seminoles the last few years as well after initially arriving as a walk-on for Florida State. During his career with the ACC program, he ran for 1,241 yards and 12 touchdowns.
That included the newest K-State back running for over 500 yards each of the last two seasons.
It is quite the honor for Ward. In the new era of college athletics, plenty of players are eligible for newcomer awards in every league. The transfer portal is the newest fad across the sports, and many qualify for the distinction.

Even at Kansas State, another player that was certainly a candidate was receiver Keagan Johnson who transferred in from Iowa. Brent Venables and Oklahoma signed a number of transfers, Oklahoma State has a transfer quarterback starting this season and TCU landed one of the better transfer classes in college football.
The league will also reveal the preseason Big 12 poll on Thursday, too, so stay tuned to see where K-State is slotted by the media in the conference’s pecking order. Will the defending Big 12 champions that return their starting quarterback be given the top spot?
