Recruit summary
Like most transfer recruitments, Alabama wide receiver Shazz Preston‘s recruitment has been done in the shadows. The Louisiana native entered the transfer portal on January 3. Shortly after entering the transfer portal, some social media activity made it look like Kansas State was interested in the former top 50 player.
After entering the transfer portal, Preston’s first stop was to Tulane last weekend. The trip to Tulane was his first visit he has gone on. Sources have also shared with KSO that Preston will be in Manhattan this weekend on an official visit to K-State.
Kansas State is hoping to pair Preston with Penn State transfer wide receiver Dante Cephas.
Evaluation of Kansas State target
There isn’t much out there on the wide receiver in his time at Alabama. He did not record a stat in his two seasons for the Crimson Tide. It is ironic, though, that Preston did receive snaps late in the Sugar Bowl against Kansas State as a true freshman. This season he was more of a special teams player for Nick Saban’s squad.

Going back to his high school tape, Preston fits the style of what K-State wide receiver coach Matthew Middleton wanted in his wideouts. The Louisiana native is another home run hitter who can take the top off of a defense. Kansas State was missing that for much of the year in the passing game.
The wide receiver is explosive when he gets the ball in his hands as well. It is easy to see why he was so highly rated as a high school prospect. He is a smooth and explosive athlete. With K-State having a hole in the return game, I wonder if that is something on the table for Preston if he commits to the Wildcats.
Prediction
Kansas State wants two wide receivers from the transfer portal. They are on the doorstep of getting Cephas already. It appears to be full speed ahead for Preston and if K-State wants him and he is a fit, it is hard to not pick the Wildcats to land the Louisiana native.
