RECRUITING SUMMARY

Jayce Brown received his offer from Kansas State on June 5 after camping in front of the staff at Valdosta State. Each Summer, the K-State coaches hit the road to recruit but to also arrive at various camps across the country to watch other prospects.

Kansas State looks to prioritize one in Georgia each cycle. Brown happened to be participating in front of assistant Brian Anderson and others and they were impressed by the Florida native. With that being said, the two sides remained patient with one another.

K-State surveyed other options out side, and assistant Thad Ward took some big swings. Meanwhile, Brown continued to converse with a handful of other schools, too. However, no other Power Five schools offered until much later, which is one of the reasons why he pounced on the Kansas State opportunity once it was actionable.

He took his official visit October 1 and committed to the Wildcats soon afterwards. Brown became more of a commodity during the season in which he tallied 925 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. But he was a defensive stalwart, too. He recorded 10 interceptions on defense.

Kansas State held off a few unnamed ACC schools, who inquired on Brown late.

Brown will also be an early enrollee.

EVALUATION

When K-State offered Brown, it came about at the same time as they extended a scholarship to receiver Eric Singleton, too. Just like Brown, Singleton visited Kansas State, too. He even wanted to commit at one point, but they pushed the pause button and chose to slow down the pace of his recruitment.

Singleton is known for a crazy amount of speed. While Brown isn’t the track guy like Singleton, he is by no means slow and his biggest strides have come in his route-running. I really like the way he has set up defenders this season. That’s not something that was in his arsenal a year ago.

Brown’s senior tape isn’t too different than what I remember seeing from RJ Garcia, to be honest. It probably isn’t a coincidence that the second-year player at Kansas State is also a native of Florida. Garcia is from Tampa though and not the panhandle.

Both are not burners but fluid route-runners that rely on their ability to set up defenders in order to create separation. It is what ascended Garcia up the depth chart in such rapid fashion. His issue has been his own health.
