For the second time tonight, Kansas State has struck in the transfer portal. First it was West Georgia safety Mar’Quavious Moss, now it is Ohio State linebacker Gabe Powers.

The decision for the Ohio State linebacker comes a bit after an official visit to Kansas State. His visit took place December 17th. He also visited Wisconsin, Minnesota and North Carolina. All three schools wanted the transfer linebacker very badly.

Powers’ addition for Kansas State comes at a needed position. Austin Romaine and Desmond Purnell return as the starting ‘Mike’ and ‘Sam’ linebacker positions. However, the ‘Will’ linebacker spot remains open and the Ohio State linebacker will likely play that role for the Wildcats. It would not be a surprise to see at least one other transfer linebacker added by Kansas State as well.

The Ohio native played in all 12 games this season for the Buckeyes in a reserve and special teams role primarily. He tallied five tackles, one interception for a touchdown and two pass deflections this season. As a redshirt freshman last season, he played in 10 games with seven tackles including one for a loss.

Like with another K-State transfer commit Jayden Rowe, Powers’ addition is all about upside. He was actually even higher ranked as a high school recruit in the 2022 recruiting class. According to the On3 Industry Ranking, the Ohio native was the No. 115 player in the country in the 2022 recruiting class, No. 9 linebacker and No. 7 player in Ohio.

In total including high school and junior college additions, Powers is the No. 29 player in Kansas State’s 2025 recruiting class. He is the fourth transfer portal addition joining Rowe, Jaron Tibbs and Moss and the third defensive transfer added.

Powers will come to Kansas State with two seasons of eligibility remaining.
