Nuggets on Kansas State (in terms of inside intel) is relegated to our message board at KSO but still spills out the best information on the Wildcats in the market. The beginning of training camp is a good time to also assess or examine the first thoughts on the new K-State staff members.

Last year could be described as a disaster on special teams by some, at least relative to what had been established as the Kansas State standard in that phase. There were bad snaps, botched holds, missed extra points, missed field goals, kickoffs out of bounds, shanked punts, missed tackles and a return team that was far from dangerous.

In other words, it was the opposite of a typical K-State special teams unit. Out is Chili Davis, who manned that unit a season ago. In as the new special teams analyst in Manhattan is long-time NFL special teams coach Nate Kaczor.

The Scott City, Kansas native is now in charge. What are the early returns?

Head coach Chris Klieman was also forced into a change on the offensive side of the ball when play-caller Collin Klein opted to accept the same position at Texas A&M a year after turning down an identical role at Notre Dame.

Conor Riley is now at the controls of the offense. Can he sustain the success on that side of the ball? The new quarterback coach at K-State is former Utah State and Texas Tech head coach Matt Wells, a long-time friend of Klieman. Do we see a lift in quarterback play?

We provide a hint of what is inside below.
