Players of the game: Kansas State falls in Ames
Kansas State offensive MVP: Jayce Brown
Kansas State’s offense was extremely inconsistent Saturday night in Ames. Jayce Brown was even inconsistent, but he was K-State’s best offensive player in the regular season finale.
The sophomore wide receiver had three catches for 106 yards and two touchdowns in the 29-21 loss to Iowa State. Brown’s first catch came on a fourth and two where he ran a slot fade and caught Avery Johnson‘s pass in the end zone to tie the game at 7-7. The Florida native also caught a 65-yard touchdown. His two touchdowns were the first time a Kansas State wide receiver had caught two touchdowns in multiple games in a season since Isaiah Zuber in 2018.
Defensive MVP: VJ Payne
All in all, the K-State defense had a pretty solid night. Safety VJ Payne was one of the best players on the field. The junior safety had 12 tackles, which was tied for the team lead in the game. What I was really impressed with from Payne was his energy. He brought a few big hits to Iowa State players and a lot of energy and emotion on a night when the Wildcats needed it.

There were a few ups and downs, but Austin Romaine has continued to be a bright spot for Kansas State as well. The sophomore linebacker also had 12 tackles including seven of the tackles being solo. Romaine had a really impressive play on a Rocco Becht design run in the second half.
K-State special teams MVP: N/A
K-State special teams continue to be a disaster. The return game cannot get going, the punts have not been great and field goals continue to be an adventure. Chris Tennant was perfect on his three extra points, but had his one field goal attempt blocked.
