Acknowledging the Kansas State offensive line issues

This week was a bit interesting in that it seemed like both Kansas State head coach Chris Klieman and offensive coordinator Collin Klein were willing to address and acknowledge the offensive line issues that were plaguing that side of the ball.

I asked Klein what he attributed it to or if there was one particular element that was hindering the performance of the K-State offense. He kind of shook his head and stated that it was a multitude of breakdowns at this point.

Some of it is hand placement. Some of it is poor footwork. That would suggest that individual technique in some cases has been lackluster. Some of it has also been communication, especially against some of the more exotic blitzes, twists and stunts.

Until they address that, Klein knows Kansas State can expect more of it. Even Klieman was willing to discuss it all and a need to improve. The hope is that the insertion of Christian Duffie back into the lineup and keeping Cooper Beebe at left guard will solve at least some of it.

Health update

To be honest, there wasn’t much more of a conversation between the K-State media and Klein. In addition to the offensive line, the health of that side of the ball was covered, namely the quarterback situation and the status of Treshaun Ward.

However, it wasn’t any different than what was shared by Klieman on Tuesday and Wednesday. It continues to be a day-to-day situation for both.

Who the quarterback will be for the Wildcats on Saturday is still to be determined. A lot of the reps thus far have been handled by Kansas State signal callers Avery Johnson and Jake Rubley. However, they’ll see where Will Howard is close to game time and base the decision off of that.

Ward is also a day-to-day situation, though the non-verbal cues from Klein didn’t exactly paint a rosy picture. Remember, Klieman referred to the K-State running back as doubtful when meeting with the media on Tuesday.
