Kansas State Builds Big Lead, Blows It To Win In Ot Over Wvu Instant Reaction

Kansas State second half collapse

It honestly felt like two different games in Bramlage Coliseum Monday night. Kansas State was cruising in the first half and got up 48-26 at the break. The K-State lead swelled to 25 points with 13:04 to go in the game.

However, the Wildcats really struggled to close out the game.

RaeQuan Battle caught fire and made all four of his three-pointer attempts in the second half. Kerr Kriisa did the same. In total, West Virginia shot a scorching 69 percent from beyond the arc in the second half and 50 percent from the field.

The Mountaineers’ shooting, along with Kansas State playing tight caused the lead to shrink according to head coach Jerome Tang.

Jesse Edwards even had a chance to put the game away for West Virginia but missed both free throws up two and Tylor Perry made both of his on the other end to tie the game. Tang liked the look of his team when the game went to overtime, and it led to another K-State win in the extra period.

Perry shines

Perry had perhaps his best game in a Kansas State uniform Monday. The senior finished the game with a season-high 29 points and was an efficient 7 of 12 from the field and 6 for 11 from deep. Perry was quick to thank his teammates for finding him early and making his job easier.

K-State is asking a lot from Perry and he’s delivering. The senior guard is practicing and preparing like a player that wants to make his first NCAA Tournament. He has embraced being coachable and doing whatever the Wildcat coaching staff has asked of him.

Perry was a great 90 percent from the free throw line again Monday and Tang said tough players make free throws at the end of games.

K-State shooting

For the second straight game Kansas State shot very well from three-point range. The Wildcats were a blistering 48 percent from deep while making 15 shots from distance against West Virginia. They were 47 percent on Saturday against BYU.

Dai Dai Ames in that department against the Mountaineers. He made three of his five attempts and David N’Guessan even added a three-point make as well. K-State players are buying in more and shooting the shots the coaching staff wants them to take.
