Biggest Kansas State plays of the game

Kansas State cruised to a 31-7 win over Arizona and did so in dominant fashion.

Head Coach Chris Klieman pointed out two plays early in the game that swung the momentum for K-State. The first was the interception by Keenan Garber of Noah Fifita in the end zone. He was playing zone in the deep third and read the eyes of the Arizona signal-caller to make the play.

The second was the Dylan Edwards punt return score. Klieman told his team during the team lunch he thought they could break a punt return for a touchdown. With how the punt was set up, Edwards got the edge and when he gets that opening, it is typically six points.

End of first half woes

The one real clunky sequence in the 31-7 victory was before the end of the half. K-State had time expire after not calling a timeout after a second down play. Klieman took ownership and called it a major gaffe on his part.

He said it will never happen again and to not blame Avery Johnson and that he put Kansas State in the situation. He believed the third down play would be over in the 11 seconds that were on the clock so the Wildcats could kick a field goal.

Obviously, that’s not how it worked out for the Wildcats. Fortunately, it didn’t impact the outcome.

More Avery runs

After having just 11 runs in the first two games of the season, Johnson ran the ball 17 times Friday night. The sophomore went over the century mark rushing for the first time in his career with 110 yards to lead K-State.

Some of the run plays for Johnson were based on looks Arizona gave him. The zone read game was key for the Wildcats, and Arizona sent more players towards DJ Giddens and Dylan Edwards on a few that led to big runs for the Kansas State quarterback.
