Kansas State health updates

Kansas State went into the bye week a bit banged up. Nose guard Uso Seumalo was injured at the end of the Oklahoma State game and tight end Brayden Loftin missed the game due to injury. Chris Klieman is hopeful of having Seumalo’s services Saturday versus Colorado. The senior nose guard did not participate in practices during the bye week, but Klieman is encouraged by his health. Seumalo may play a limited role on Saturday but is expected to play.

However, Klieman is not as encouraged by Loftin’s status. It may be a week or two away from Loftin being able to play.

Praise for Colorado

Klieman was full of praise for the Buffaloes Monday afternoon. The Kansas State head coach believes Shedeur Sanders should be the first quarterback taken in the NFL Draft this spring. Sanders does a lot of good things pre and post snap and defenses can’t confuse him. Colorado has a lot of players to throw the ball to, not just Travis Hunter.

Having good rush lanes and discipline in the secondary will be key for K-State’s defense. The Wildcats will have to play the run and pass defensively as Colorado has an improved run game.

Finding an identity

K-State is starting to find themselves offensively. The Wildcats are one of the top rushing teams not just in the Big 12, but in the country. DJ Giddens is Kansas State’s identity. The K-State offense goes as he goes and the Wildcats are able to open up their offense with Giddens’ success. The run game has opened up the passing game and it showed against Oklahoma State.

Giddens, along with the threat of Avery Johnson‘s legs and Dylan Edwards, has made the Kansas State run game go. K-State’s offensive line is blocking well, and the tight ends are doing a good job as well. Perimeter blocking has been improving as the season has gone on. Klieman was quick to note, though, that the Wildcats have to be able to stay balanced, throw the ball well, and rush the football.
