NO EXCUSES FROM KANSAS STATE

Kansas State was the walking wounded near the end of the of the game. Seven different players went out with an injury at some point and Khalid Duke was ejected for targeting in the fourth quarter. K-State had to dig deep into the well, including playing three quarterbacks.

But there are no excuses according to Chris Klieman. And that was also echoed by players Austin Moore, Deuce Vaughn, Will Howard and Kade Warner.

Teams have 85 scholarship players for a reason and everyone has to be ready to play. Howard, Nick Allen and Jacob Parrish were all signaled out by the Kansas State head coach as players who were forced into much more action against TCU.

LACK OF EXECUTION IN SECOND HALF

K-State was firing on all cylinders as an offense in the first half to the tune of 28 points (scoring on four consecutive drives), but they couldn’t muster a point in the second half after all that success. Lack of execution was the main buzzword from Klieman and the players in the postgame media sessions when asked what went wrong.

Kansas State managed just 82 total yards in the second half after posting 298 in the first half. On the other side, TCU collected 239 yards of offense in the second half.

HOWARD WAS READY

It may have been the best game of the career of K-State quarterback Will Howard, at least in the first half. He was adding first down after first down through the air when he was inserted. He was putting the ball in tight windows for much of the night and had some clutch throws on third and fourth down.

Letting one rip to Phillip Brooks early on in the game was big to give him confidence.

His night also included two touchdown passes and a rushing score.

The Kansas State junior quarterback has played a lot of football and has learned a lot in his time with Skylar Thompson and Adrian Martinez. He spoke glowingly about both and what they have meant for him after the contest.

PRAISE FOR KENDRE MILLER

TCU running back Kendre Miller ran for 153 yards and two touchdowns Saturday night. He received a lot of praise from Klieman, Austin Moore and Eli Huggins. Huggins went as far as to call the Horned Frog running back the best running back K-State has played this season and it didn’t seem remotely controversial.
