Kansas State health updates

Kansas State was without true freshman Austin Romaine in the 41-3 thrashing of TCU last Saturday.

It was the first game of Romaine’s young career that he has missed due to injury. K-State head coach Chris Klieman shared that he has already practiced this week, but it is probably too early to know on his status.

Kansas State tight end Ben Sinnott did not practice yesterday after being injured against the Horned Frogs. It is also too early to tell on him. Receivers RJ Garcia and Keagan Johnson are dealing with injuries as well and are being considered game-time decisions. Garcia is further along, though.

A look at Houston’s offense

For those that do not know, Saturday will be the first meeting ever between K-State and Houston. But it won’t be the first time that the wildcats have seen Cougar head coach Dana Holgorsen or their signal caller Donovan Smith.

Klieman has a lot of respect for both. He praised Smith and said he makes the Houston offense go with his explosiveness. The Houston quarterback is second in the Big 12 in passing and a large part of that is having big, physical wide receivers who are home run threats.

Houston is able to do multiple things on offense because of the physicality of their offensive line and with the ability to run the quarterback with Smith.

K-State quarterback situation

Both Will Howard and Avery Johnson played in the Kansas State win over TCU. They alternated every series throughout the victory. What will the quarterback situation look like this week? Klieman is not exactly sure just yet.

It is still early in their preparation so he and K-State offensive coordinator Collin Klein have not discussed the plan at that spot for Saturday’s tilt with with the Cougars.

Brown coming along

After his breakout game a week ago, Kansas State true freshman Jayce Brown is listed as a starting wide receiver for the Houston contest. It just took a bit of time for Brown to be comfortable with everything K-State does on offense.

Injuries at the wide receiver position have contributed to him fielding more practice reps with the ones, and because he is playing faster than he was at the beginning of the season, he has seen a rise in his snap count as well.

Brown has taken advantage of his opportunity and what we saw Saturday is something the Florida native began to show at practice just a couple weeks ago.
