Kansas State health updates

Kansas State came away with a few injuries Saturday in Morgantown.

Carver Willis did not travel to West Virginia, Hadley Panzer got dinged up in the second half and did not return and Beau Palmer was hurt during the game on a punt.

Willis will be a full go at practice Monday and return to action against Kansas. The Wildcats are still trying to figure out where Panzer is at health-wise. The senior is one of the tougher players for K-State and was at media availability, though.

Palmer will be out the rest of the season, which will put more pressure on the rest of the Kansas State linebackers and the special teams units.

Secondary showing improvements

The K-State secondary showed some improvement Saturday versus the Mountaineers. West Virginia quarterbacks were just 15 of 32 through the air and were intercepted twice.

Conceptually, the Wildcats played more zone on Saturday than they had in the past. The secondary passed things off well and took steps forward in communication. That needs to continue in the next game because of the shifts, trades and motions deployed by the Jayhawks.

A look at Kansas

Kansas is running Jalon Daniels more this season than they have in the past. It is something that has Kansas State worried, specifically after West Virginia signal-caller Garrett Greene had success on the ground last week against the Wildcats.

K-State must tackle better in the quarterback run game and did not have good rush lane integrity versus the Mountaineers. Kansas also has two capable running backs and do a lot of different things in the ground game.

The Jayhawks have two playmakers at cornerback. Cobee Bryant had three interceptions last week versus Houston. Kansas is full of players who have played a lot of football for them and many of the same faces you see playing Saturday played even back in 2022 in Manhattan.
