What Kansas State learned from bye week
Kansas State is coming off its second bye week of the season. It is the first time K-State has had multiple bye weeks in the Chris Klieman era. Knowing the second bye week was coming in the summer, Klieman and his staff came up with a plan. The second bye week was a major chance for younger players to get more padded practices and for Kansas State to rest some of the older players.
The K-State head coach revealed the standouts from the bye week include a lot of the younger offensive linemen. Kyle Rakers, Kaedin Massey, Gus Hawkins, Navarro Schunke and Ryan Howard were all mentioned by Klieman. None of those players are quite ready to play in a game yet. However, all five players have had a great fall and are on track to have a great spring to potentially get ready for next season.
Run game
It is no secret the Wildcats run game has been sputtering a bit in the last three games. Part of the sputtering had to do with how teams played Kansas State. Some are also due to K-State not having great fundamentals. Both Arizona State and the Wildcats want to be able to rush the football this week. It is part of both teams’ identities. That is why this week will be a matchup at the line of scrimmage and whoever controls the line could win the game. Winning the line of scrimmage also does not just deal with the offensive line as much as it does tight ends and wide receivers.

A look at Arizona State
Klieman was very complimentary about the Sun Devils during his Monday press conference. He called running back Cam Skattebo a stud, deserving of all the accolades he has received this season. The Arizona State running back did not play versus UCF and his status for Saturday’s game in Manhattan also remains in question. Much of the Arizona State offense predicates around Skattebo and using RPO and play action off of the run game. A major beneficiary of the run game on play action is Jordyn Tyson who is as good of a receiver as Kansas State has faced this season.
The Kansas State head coach was also very complimentary of Kenny Dillingham in his second year coaching his alma mater. The Sun Devils have recruited well in the transfer portal and have a bunch of players playing for each other.
