Rapid recap: Key to Kansas State's overtime success
Kansas State’s overtime advantage
The 73-70 win was Kansas State’s sixth overtime game in the Jerome Tang era. K-State has won all six of the games, including winning in the Cayman Island Classic last November against Nevada. Tang believes the Wildcats’ success in overtime comes from practicing every day.
Every day in practice Kansas State simulates a close game with five minutes to go calling it “five to grind.” It was also something both Arthur Kaluma and Tylor Perry were quick to point out in their post-game press conference as well.
The K-State coach was also quick to give credit to his staff. He believes his staff has been able to take advantage of schematics on offense and defense in overtime and could not do it without his assistants.
Aftermath of fight
With seven seconds to go in the game Providence freshman Garwey Dual and Wildcat freshman Dai Dai Ames got into a bit of a skirmish. Both players were ejected for fighting and Dual appeared to throw a punch at Ames.

Since the referees deemed it a fight, the league office will take a look at the video and determine further action. Tang called it a learning experience for his freshman guard and said Ames needs to learn to handle the situation better in the future. It is part of the maturing process for the Kansas State guard.
Kaluma taking a step
Last week, Tang was quick to point out that Kaluma needed to buy in a bit more to get going. Friday night the Creighton transfer had his best game at K-State with 18 points and shot 60 percent from the field.
The Wildcat coach after the win at the Baha Mar Hoops Classic believes Kaluma’s buy-in is starting to come around. The junior wing pointed out that being in a new program it can be tough to come in right away and find your way. However, as more time goes on Kaluma is getting more comfortable with the system and players around him.
