Our projected Kansas State depth chart comes via a message board post at KSO and digs into who the starters and main contributors will be for the Wildcats in 2025. We now go to the defensive side of the ball where Joe Klanderman remains in charge.

Honestly, there were too many defensive ends to name and not enough spots. It is the deepest K-State has been on the edge since I’ve covered the team in 2017. I’m not sure it’s even close, even if it may not have the Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year this time around.

How will Kansas State align? Will we see the Wildcats stick with the 3-3-5 flyover scheme or play some more 4-down like we saw this past season. That could dictate how K-State looks on the interior and where some players are spotted the most.

That alignment approach could also affect the Kansas State linebackers. Will they play with three on the field still or just two? What does the ratio look like if both schemes are utilized? The starters are known, but who from the second unit will be expected to contribute?

Unlike past years, Van Malone will be breaking in new players at cornerback. He has used both the transfer portal and the high school market to build his room. Retention and development was also key, but who rises to the top?

Klanderman’s safety group was rough last year. The Wildcats didn’t get what they needed out of the position, and it resulted in his worst defense since calling the plays in Manhattan. Did they infuse it with enough talent in the offseason?
