Winners and losers: Jerome Tang and Kansas State log exhibition win
1) BIG 12: The conference reached a new television deal when they agreed to an extension with both ESPN and Fox. It begins in 2025 and runs through 2031 and is worth $2.28 billion. Kansas State and the rest of the Big 12 members will make more money than they do currently with Texas and Oklahoma. Brett Yormark’s conference is also flirting with Gonzaga for basketball.
2) DESI: K-State guard Desi Sills has made it to campus and played very well in the exhibition game against Washburn. Sills only had one point and nearly fouled out, but he added four rebounds and seven assists. The offense also flowed much better with Sills on the floor than without him.
3) JEROME TANG: It is another week with Kansas State head coach Jerome Tang as a winner. He won his first game as a head coach at K-State, even if it was against the Ichabods and not an official contest in Manhattan.
4) KANSAS STATE CROWD: Even with the loss, the Kansas State crowd was as electric as Bill Snyder Family Stadium has been in a long, long time on Saturday evening. Not only was the football crowd a rowdy bunch, the student section was the best I have ever seen it for an exhibition basketball game inside Bramlage Coliseum.
5) BRIAN KELLY: I’ll own up to it and say I was very wrong about Brian Kelly. The LSU head coach has them rolling after losing to Florida State in the first week of the season. They defeated Alabama in overtime over the weekend and now control their own destiny in the SEC West.
LOSERS
1) K-STATE: After falling to Texas, Kansas State no longer controls their own destiny in the Big 12 race. They now need to win out and have the Longhorns slip up again before punching their ticket to Arlington.

2) TURNOVERS: Adrian Martinez had two critical turnovers in the K-State loss to Texas and the basketball team had 19 turnovers in the exhibition game.
3) PAC 12: Unfortunately for commissioner George Kliavkoff, the Pac-12 was beat to the punch on a new television contract by the Big 12, much to the dismay of Stewart Mandel.
4) OKLAHOMA: Oklahoma lost to Baylor 38-35. The Sooners have now lost four conference games, the most since 2014. Not only is Brent Venables struggling in year one, Oklahoma alum Josh Heupel has Tennessee humming and were ranked No. 1 in the first College Football Playoff poll last week.
5) SELF AND TOWNSEND: Even though it is a light punishment, Bill Self and Kurtis Townsend will be suspended for four games this season.
