KSO covers the biggest winners and losers in the world of Kansas State and college athletics.

Winners

1.) Stars: It has to start with Kansas State stars Avery Johnson and DJ Giddens. Johnson threw for 259 yards, ran for 60 and had five total touchdowns. Giddens ran for 187 yards and a score and tacked on a 22-yard reception. Oklahoma State had no answer for them.
2.) Undefeateds: The remaining undefeated teams in the Big 12 deserve to be recognize – BYU and Iowa State, just like we were all expecting.
3.) DeBoer: Knocking off Georgia in his first big one as Alabama head coach and making Jalen Milroe look like a bonafide star makes me very impressed with what Kalen DeBoer is doing in Tuscaloosa. And it’s on the heels of taking Washington to the national title game.
4.) Dodge City: Live in western Kansas? You can head to the Dodge City Civic Center on October 5 and watch the K-State basketball team practice. It starts at 4:00 p.m. and tickets are $5 for youth and $10 for adults.
5.) Beebe: Every other NFL team is still kicking themselves for not drafting Kansas State offensive lineman Cooper Beebe. It couldn’t be more obvious that he was one of the most sure things exiting the college ranks. And he proved it by landing the starting center job for the Dallas Cowboys and reinforced it by keeping New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence at bay.

Losers

1.) KU: Another week of college football, and it was another good week of viewership for K-State fans. They saw their team drill another top 25 team at home in the same week that Kansas dropped another game. The Jayhawks are 1-4. And if you took their under on wins at the books, you’re one Kansas loss away from cashing it already.
2.) Secondary: Unfortunately, the Kansas State secondary is still leaky.
3.) Utes: The Utes were a winner last week but a big loser this week. Losing at home 23-10 to Arizona is only part of the problem. How injured is Cam Rising? That is a question worth asking at the moment. And this is good news for teams like K-State, Iowa State and maybe Colorado, Arizona and BYU.
4.) Sluka: Okay, so UNLV quarterback Matthew Sluka left the program and will enter the transfer portal because he vows the Rebels didn’t fulfill their NIL promises. But they didn’t seem too concerned about it since they didn’t figure it out. Instead, they went to the back-up quarterback and looked even better. Sluka tried to call their bluff and lost. Now he will struggle to find even good as a home and still have light pockets.
5.) Noles: They’re suing the ACC and wanted nothing to do with SMU (and Stanford and Cal) joining the league. Whilst doing so, Florida State is 1-4 and was spanked 42-16 by the Mustangs. Good grief. Have they no pride in Tallahassee?
