11 Kentucky Teams Post Perfect APR Report
University of Kentucky athletes are pretty good at handling the “student” part of their jobs. Today UK Athletics announced 11 of its 20 teams posted perfect scores in the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) report. Sixteen of the 20 UK team scores exceeded or tied the national average in their sports from 2019-2022. UK’s overall score of 985 (out of 1,000) exceeded the national average.
APR is used to measure an individual sports program’s success in the classroom. It measures academic eligibility, retention and graduation over a four-year period.
Athletic programs can be punished if programs do not reach a threshold of 930 out of 1,000. Falling below the bar can force a program to miss the postseason. In the 19-year history of APR, none of UK’s teams have ever been penalized for failing to get the grades in the classroom.

The COVID-19 pandemic did throw a wrench into the APR system. Since there are so many super seniors, penalties have been suspended this year.
UK athletes have posted an overall grade-point average over 3.0 in 21 consecutive semesters. Not too shabby. The 11 UK Athletics programs that notched perfect APR scores: baseball, women’s basketball, men’s cross country, women’s cross country, men’s golf, women’s golf, gymnastics, rifle, softball, women’s tennis and volleyball.
