2024 5-star wing Liam McNeeley commits to UConn
Liam McNeeley, a five-star class of 2024 wing who was considering the Kentucky Wildcats, committed to UConn on Friday evening.
ESPN’s Jonathan Givony was first to break the news.
McNeeley is a former Indiana commit but backed off that decision in March. At the time, he was being recruited to Kentucky by former head coach John Calipari and continued to hear from the Wildcats once Mark Pope took over earlier this month following Calipari’s departure for Arkansas.
Pope even held a Zoom call with McNeeley not long ago, but ultimately, the 6-foot-7 small forward out of Montverde Academy (FL) went with the Huskies, citing goals of winning a third consecutive national championship next season.
“It felt like a perfect fit,” McNeeley, who chose UConn over Kentucky, Michigan, Alabama, and others, told Givony. “There’s no reason we can’t contend for a three-peat.”

Originally from Texas, McNeeley is considered the No. 15 overall recruit in the 2024 class, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He was the top remaining uncommitted prospect in his class.
Despite missing out on the best available high school senior, Kentucky still received some good news on Friday. San Diego State transfer Lamont Butler committed to the Wildcats earlier in the day after he was visited in Las Vegas by multiple members of the UK staff.
