Jeremiah Lowe has been a need-to-know local prospect all season long now. On Friday night, Kentucky associate head coach Vince Marrow got a first-hand look at the developing star — just another talented product to come out of the Frederick Douglass High School football factory.

Lowe, a 5-foot-11, 170-pound class of 2024 cornerback, was excellent in Frederick Douglass’ 37-6 drumming of Boyle County in the Kroger KSR Game of the Week Top 10 matchup. The Broncos gave up just one touchdown all night long and allowed a combined net total of 153 yards to Boyle County. Lowe, who plays alongside three-star ’23 Kentucky commit Ty Bryant in the secondary, was rock-solid from start to finish.

Considered a three-star recruit and the No. 604 overall junior per the On3 Consensus, Lowe recorded three tackles and an interception on Friday night. He and Bryant had to help make up for the absence of a third important defensive back piece for Frederick Douglass, senior Isaiah Kenney. The Broncos’ secondary still managed to lock up the Rebels’ air attack, and Lowe was a major reason why. It was made even more significant considering Boyle County handed Frederick Douglass a 34-7 loss on Senior Night in 2021.

“This one means a lot to us,” Lowe told KSR after the win. “We just stayed patient, because last year it really meant a lot to us how they did us on our Senior Night. And then to come out tonight — missing a key piece — we just handled business. All glory to God off of that one. We did our business.”

Not only did the team handle their business, Lowe did individually, too. Coach Marrow, who spent the majority of the game watching intensely from the sidelines, pulled Lowe aside postgame to extend him an offer to Kentucky.

“He was telling me about the game, asking me about grades, and how it felt for the win, then he offered,” Lowe said. “It means a lot, especially being a hometown kid. It should open a lot more doors for me.”

An SEC offer will surely open more doors, but Lowe is also hardly an unknown prospect. He recently earned offers from Missouri (September) and Michigan (June) while visiting the likes of Purdue, Louisville, and Notre Dame this season. Lowe also made a visit to UK with a couple of his high school teammates during fall break earlier in the month.

Jeremiah Lowe is an SEC-caliber cornerback

Lowe’s head coach, Nathan McPeek, has seen plenty of Power 5 recruits come through his program in just the last few years. He knows a high-level player when he sees one. Lowe appears to fit the mold.

“(Lowe is) a great kid. Awesome kid, doesn’t miss workouts. He’s a great athlete. He’s a dude,” McPeek told KSR on Friday. “We got a lot of dudes obviously, but he’s an SEC corner for sure.”

Through nine games for Frederick Douglass this season, Lowe has recorded nine tackles (2.5 for loss) to go along with two interceptions. The Broncos have the eighth-best passing defense in the entire state, giving up just 47 yards per game. The team as a whole leads the state in scoring margin, winning games by an impressive average of 46.2 points per outing.

Compared to last season, Lowe actually produced better stats as a sophomore in 2021, but he’s part of a much improved Frederick Douglass defense that is operating at juggernaut levels. The ball doesn’t reach the secondary all that often, but when it does, it rarely yields positive results for the offense. Despite that, Lowe continues to draw significant college interest. He’s bulked up and contributes to winning football. Coaches are watching closely.

“I got stronger in my faith and I took the weight room a lot more serious this year,” Lowe said of his on-field improvements. “I found a group of people to just go get it with it, go grind, and it’s paying off.”

I tell everybody that calls, they better get in the boat,” McPeek added.
