3-star '24 EDGE Lorenzo Cowan commits to Kentucky
Kentucky has added a 17th commitment to its 2024 recruiting class. Lorenzo Cowan is a Wildcat.
Cowan announced his decision on Sunday afternoon following the completion of his official visit to Kentucky, which began on Friday. Clocking in at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, the Savannah (GA) Jenkins product is considered the No. 1,122 overall high school senior according to the On3 Industry Ranking. Cowan chose UK over the likes of South Florida and West Virginia, two schools he officially visited in June.
“The other schools on my list were great. They gave me a lot to like. But the bonds I created with everyone on the staff, having my brother there, the feeling I have in Lexington and how comfortable I feel around the town made this decision right,” Cowan told On3’s Chad Simmons.
Kentucky was just the second school to extend Cowan a scholarship, which he earned back in May 2022. He is also the younger brother of current Kentucky freshman DL Tavion Gadson. Cowan picked up a written offer from the ‘Cats on August 1 with defensive backs coach Chris Collins paving the way in this recruitment. He’s visited UK several times over the last year-plus.
“Tavion was a factor, and he played a big role in this decision,” Cowan added. “We talk every day and he loves it up there. He is familiar with how they train, what they do, how a regular day goes and we get to be on the same team again. We lived in the same house, we played high school ball together and now we will be together at Kentucky. It is great for us and it will allow our mom to see us play on the same team at the same school.”

Playing varsity since he was a sophomore at Jenkins, Cowan is coming off a junior season that saw him appear in 10 games and record 31 total tackles (23 solo, six for loss) with eight sacks and nine quarterback hurries. He also knocked down two passes and even blocked a field goal.
So far this season, Jenkins is 1-2, although stats have only been logged for the team’s first two games. In those outings, Cowan has registered nine total tackles (six solo, one for loss) with one sack, three hurries, two pass deflections, and one blocked field goal. He also plays basketball and does track and field events.
Kentucky now has 17 commits on board in the class of 2024, including one other EDGE prospect, three-star Caleb Redd, in addition to Cowan. The UK staff is also recruiting a pair of four-star EDGE recruits in Brian Robinson and Michigan commit Jacob Smith. Kentucky’s 2024 class currently ranks 34th in the country according to On3.
