Jermiel Atkins will take an official visit to Kentucky the weekend of June 21. But before the Wildcats roll out the red carpet in a few weeks, offensive line coach Eric Wolford wanted to work with him in person.

On Wednesday, Atkins and several of his Trotwood-Madison (OH) High teammates made the trip to Lexington for the Wildcat One Day Camp. A couple of them have already announced offers from UK following the camp, too. But Atkins is the Big Fish here.

During the two-hour camp, Wolford focused plenty on Atkins, coaching him through drills and offering up bits of advice along the way. Wolford made it a point to push the 6-foot-8, 270-pound offensive tackle more than the other campers in attendance, and to his credit, he didn’t back down once. Where most campers would stop doing drills around the 20-yard line, Wolford would push Atkins out to the 50.

Atkins didn’t necessarily have anything to “prove” in front of Wolford as the two have already met before and there is clear mutual interest, but impressing his position coach on the actual field will surely go a long way. The two chatted before, during, and after the camp. Everything is in order for his official visit near the end of the month.

“(Wolford) said he would never change up his personality and he would always act like him,” Atkins told KSR shortly after his camp visit wrapped up. Once the camp was over, he and his high school teammates immediately hopped in a car and went straight to Louisville for another camp this afternoon.

Atkins says he’ll perform in front of the Louisville coaches (the Cardinals have not offered), but his trio of finalists have already been set. He’ll take official visits to Virginia Tech (June 7) and Minnesota (June 14), in addition to UK, he confirmed with KSR. A commitment date has been scheduled for Thursday, July 4. These three officials will be critical.

“It’s a great school,” Atkins said of Kentucky. “Lot of great talent there and it’s close to home.”

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Atkins is considered a three-star recruit and the No. 921 overall rising high school senior in the country. The Wildcats currently have six class of 2025 commitments, good enough for the 25th-best class in the nation.
