To put it into even more impressive perspective, the fine folks at UK Athletics crunched the numbers and discovered that of the 446 players in the league, approximately 4.7% played college basketball at Kentucky. That means John Calipari is halfway to his goal of having former Wildcats account for 10% of players in the NBA. Some other awesome NBA-related stats from UK:
  • 4 Cats play for the Phoenix Suns (Eric Bledsoe, Devin Booker, Archie Goodwin and Brandon Knight)
  • 3 Cats play for the Sacramento Kings (Willie Cauley-Stein, DeMarcus Cousins and Rajon Rondo)
  • 2 Cats play for the Charlotte Hornets (Aaron Harrison, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist) and the Minnesota Timberwolves (Tayshaun Prince, Karl-Anthony Towns)
  • 13: The number of years Tayshaun Prince has been in the NBA, the most of any Kentucky player currently in the league
  • 19 of the Kentucky players in the league were first-round picks
  • 13 went in the lottery
  • 6 in the top five
  • 3 at #1
  • 25: The number of Kentucky players drafted in the past six years under Calipari
  • $680 million: The value of Kentucky players’ current guaranteed contracts
  • $780 million: The value of Calipari-coached players' current guaranteed contracts
  • $1.25 billion: The value of Calipari-coached players' contracts over the course of their careers
