In a short amount of time, Kentucky head coach Mark Pope and his staff have quickly developed a strong relationship with four-star shooting guard Braylon Mullins.

Mullins, who is ranked No. 31 overall in the 2025 class by On3, took an unofficial visit to Lexington on Monday and left town with a scholarship from the Wildcats. He’s already locked in another trip to campus, too, and will return to UK on Oct. 25-27 for an official visit. Mullins now has six OVs scheduled for the summer/fall with Purdue (where he also unofficially visited this week) expected to receive the seventh.

  • UConn (Aug. 1)
  • Michigan (Sept. 7)
  • North Carolina (Sept. 14)
  • Indiana (Sept. 21)
  • Tennessee (Oct. 19)
  • Kentucky (Oct. 25)

KSR spoke with Mullins on Friday night to get an update on his visit and where things stand with Kentucky going into what will be a busy summer for the Greenfield-Central (IN) product.

“I got (to Kentucky) around 10:30-ish. I got there halfway through practice so I got to watch a little bit of that,” Mullins said of his visit on Monday. “Watched a bunch of ball screen stuff that they run, what they’re installing. That was good for me to see. I did my campus tour. I looked at the (Wildcat Coal) Lodge, saw that, pretty neat spot, especially right next to the practice facilities.

“Then I went to Rupp (Arena), got to see the new court and everything, got to take a couple of pictures on that. It was a great visit. I think we watched film for the last like hour and a half about my AAU circuit team and how I fit with their system and everything. Coach Pope made it very distinct that I was needed. And that meant a lot, especially just seeing the whole coaching staff in person too. I felt like it was a good visit and that’s why I scheduled my official.”

Mullins only spent the day in Lexington before heading back home to Indiana, but his experience was unique to other visits he’s been on. He and the entire UK coaching staff watched roughly an hour and a half of his AAU film, something he’d never done on a visit before.

But the highlight of the short trip was how he received a Kentucky scholarship from Pope.

“He took us to the top of Rupp and he was telling stories about how they won and everything,” Mullins explained. “How I could bring more championships here and just showing the future with me. I got my scholarship at the top of Rupp. So I thought that was a very cool experience, especially walking up there, I felt like I was gonna fall a couple of times. Overall I enjoyed it and I enjoyed the talks with Mark Pope.”

With Mullins clearly near the top of Kentucky’s 2025 Big Board, it doesn’t hurt the Wildcat’s chances that he’s close with four-star center Malachi Moreno — another top target for UK out of Georgetown (KY) Great Crossing. Suiting up together on the AAU circuit for Indiana Elite, the duo will take a perfect 19-0 record into the Adidas 3SSB championship from July 9-14 in Rock Hill, SC. Mullins was one of the most efficient scorers on the entire circuit during the spring.

“Recently (Moreno has) been in contact about what fits us both. Seeing where we both can go, and I feel like (Kentucky is) definitely an option for both of us still,” Mullins said of conversations with his AAU teammate. “But I have a great relationship with him. I mean I’ve been playing with him since like eighth grade. I’ve kinda learned how to play with him and it’s always fun to have a seven-footer on your team. It’s definitely a good relationship.”

Looking ahead, Mullins has a tentative schedule for a list cut and a possible decision. With six official visits on the docket and an additional one to Purdue expected, only a couple more — if any — could be added to the group. After he takes his visits, an announcement could come as soon as late fall, although that remains up in the air.

“I have a good vision of a good 7-9 (schools),” Mullins added. “So I’m probably going to cut either before Rock Hill or after. So I’m gonna cut my schools then. On my decision date, I was going to do it before senior year, so like November-ish, but I’m still 50/50 on that. I don’t know if I want to do it during the season or before the season. But I’m definitely cutting (my list) sometime soon.”

Kentucky will almost assuredly crack the group of finalists. As of right now, the Wildcats will also receive his final official visit. Pope and his staff have already checked plenty of Mullins’ boxes.

When I first got in contact with the coaches I feel like they made me a priority,” Mullins said. “And I feel like I have a good relationship with the coaches even though I’ve only been talking with them for maybe 2-3 weeks. When I got to campus and they showed me around, showing me the legacy, the history of it, it definitely got my eyes right. I liked what I saw.”
