5-star '24 PG Boogie Fland begins official visit to Kentucky today
The Big Blue Nation has all eyes on Saturday’s football game, but this weekend is an important one on the basketball front too.
Five-star class of 2024 point guard Johnuel “Boogie” Fland begins his official visit to Kentucky today (Friday, Sept. 8). The Harlem (NY) Archbishop Stepinac product will stay in town until Sunday. Fland checks in at 6-foot-3, 175 pounds, and is considered the No. 9 overall high school senior in the country by the On3 Industry Ranking.
This official visit will be Fland’s fourth so far, having already been to North Carolina (Oct. 2022), Michigan (May 2023), and Indiana (June 2023). He has future OVs locked in later this month with Alabama (9/22) and Maryland (9/29). Fland has not been to UK before, so expect the Wildcats to roll out the red carpet from the moment he arrives.
Back in July, Kentucky cracked the top eight for Fland, as did Alabama, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, St. John’s, and UConn. The only two schools yet to have scheduled an official visit with Fland from that group are St. John’s and UConn, although both have hosted him previously for unofficial visits.
There is currently no clear-cut leader (or even a decision timeline) in Fland’s recruitment at this point, but Kentucky is one of the few leading the charge. Head coach John Calipari and his assistants were constantly roaming the sidelines of Fland’s AAU games throughout the summer. The staff offered him all the way back in July 2022.

“Coach Cal has been saying he really wants me at the school,” Fland told KSR+ in July. “All the coaches were coming to my games. They’re a winning program. I saw them play that little exhibition tournament they had in Toronto (GLOBL JAM). Just the play style.”
Playing for the PSA Cardinals on the Nike EYBL circuit in the summer, Fland shined in the pre-Peach Jam sessions. He averaged 15.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.7 steals per game on shooting splits of 43.5/33.3/77.5. Although his numbers dipped slightly at Peach Jam, he was still able to help lead PSA to a 4-2 record in the event.
So far, Kentucky has just one commit for the class of 2024 with four-star center Somto Cyril. Could Fland be next to join the fold?
