BREAKING: 5-star guard Cason Wallace commits to Kentucky
Kentucky has added its third top-ten commitment and fourth top-15 pledge overall, as five-star guard Cason Wallace has announced he will be a Wildcat.
Wallace, the No. 7 overall prospect in the latest On3 player rankings, chose Kentucky over Tennessee, Texas, and UTSA. He also held offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Creighton, Illinois, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and West Virginia, among others, before cutting his list.
Kentucky remains No. 1
The five-star prospect comes in ranked No. 7 overall and No. 2 among combo guards in the class of 2022. Wallace joins five-star prospects Shaedon Sharpe (No. 1 overall), Chris Livingston (No. 5 overall), and Skyy Clark (No. 13 overall) in Kentucky’s upcoming recruiting class, rankings courtesy of the On3 Consensus.
With four five-star commitments, Kentucky boasts the No. 1 overall recruiting class in the On3 Consensus Team Rankings. Duke comes in at No. 2, followed by UCLA at No. 3, Arkansas at No. 4, and Ohio State at No. 5.
A proven winner
Wallace is a versatile two-way threat known for his competitiveness, toughness, and knack for winning at all levels. His scholarship offer from Kentucky came after the 6-foot-4, 185-pound guard led his ProSkills EYBL (TX) squad to an impressive 12-1 final record at Peach Jam this summer. He finished the prestigious recruiting event averaging 14.7 points (47.7% FG, 35% 3PT), 6.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.2 steals per contest in 13 games.
The newest Wildcat also thrived at the NBPA Top 100 Camp in Orlando back late July, finishing the event averaging 10.3 points (36.4% 3PT), 5.0 assists, 4.3 rebounds, 3.0 steals, and 1.3 blocks per contest. He was named to the NBPA Top 100 All-Star team at the conclusion of the event.
Wallace proved to be one of the top guards in America at every stop this summer, consistently battling on both ends and putting his teams in position to win games. He’s physical and instinctual on defense, regularly poking balls free, jumping the passing lanes, and coming up with loose balls. After forcing turnovers, he thrives in transition as a distributor and scorer. Wallace is a crafty finisher who is comfortable scoring through contact.

Mr. Versatile
His versatility is what intrigued Kentucky the most, as Wallace thrives at all three perimeter positions. He’s comfortable as a lead guard, controlling the pace of the game and executing the offense, but he’s also more than capable as an off-ball complementary piece at the two or three. He’s shown growing consistency as an outside shooter since the spring, justifying his fit as a two or three in Lexington even further. Wallace is a do-it-all gadget guard, one that fits perfectly alongside Clark, Sharpe, and Livingston.
Jai Lucas was Wallace’s lead recruiter, with John Calipari, Orlando Antigua, and Chin Coleman all watching the five-star guard throughout the summer. Kentucky has deep ties to Wallace’s EYBL program, ProSkills, with program founder and CEO Jeff Webster being former UK standout Julius Randle’s godfather and youth basketball coach.
Now, Wallace will be taking his talents to Lexington, joining a stacked class that features four top-15 prospects in the On3 Consensus Rankings. Quite the group Calipari has reeled in.
The early signing period is set to open Wednesday, Nov. 10, with all four of UK’s commitments set to put pen to paper and officially join the program.
