6-5 in-state center Ramiya White commits to Kentucky WBB

Kyra Elzy and the Kentucky women’s basketball program have picked up their first commitment in 2024, and it’s a big one. The biggest one, actually.
Butler (Louisville) High School standout Ramiya White, a 6-foot-5 center in the rising senior class, made her decision public Sunday afternoon. The Miss Kentucky Basketball candidate chose the Wildcats over scholarship offers from the likes of Clemson, Florida State, Kansas State, Miami (FL), Mississippi State, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse and West Virginia, among others.
White received an offer from Kentucky in November 2021 and took an official to Lexington this past June. Just over a month later, the in-state product is a Wildcat.
“I just want to thank all of my coaches and all of my trainers for pushing me to my limits and helping me reach my full potential,” White said. “I appreciate your honesty and constructive feedback, which has helped me improve and grow. All of your dedication to your craft and your athletes is truly remarkable, and I’m blessed to have learned from you.
“After thoughtful consideration, I am proud to announce my commitment to the University of Kentucky. Let’s go Cats.”

What is Kentucky getting?
The physical post presence led Butler in scoring and on the glass as a junior, averaging 8.6 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest, respectively. White helped the Bearettes earn a 22nd District title before falling to Mercy — her former school as a freshman — in the 6th Region Tournament semifinals. On the year, the 6-5 center led Butler in field goal percentage at 51.5% while adding 64.2% at the line.
Playing on the adidas 3SSB circuit with United Family (17U) this spring and summer, White established herself as one of the best post recruits in the nation. She actually goes by the nickname “Baby Shaq” — and would be the tallest player on the Kentucky roster this upcoming season.
Now, she’s officially a Kentucky Wildcat.

Can’t ask for a better pledge to get things rolling in the 2024 class for Kyra Elzy and the Kentucky staff.
