7 Kentucky Wildcats named preseason All-SEC by Athlon Sports
Even though we’re still in the spring, it’s never too early for some preseason predictions.
On Monday, the folks over at Athlon Sports unveiled their SEC Football 2023 All-Conference Team members for the upcoming season. Comprised of four All-SEC Teams, a total of seven Kentucky Wildcats helped make up the roster, with one of them (Barion Brown) having his name listed twice for multiple positions. While no Wildcats cracked the First-Team list, a handful did make the Second-Team.
Althon states that these All-SEC Teams “are based on how players will perform in 2023” and that overall team strength does not factor into the selections. Georgia led the way with the most All-SEC players at 15 with Alabama coming in not far behind at 12. LSU, South Carolina, Mississippi State, and Missouri all featured double-digit selections. Vanderbilt has the fewest with just four picks.

Interestingly enough, Kentucky quarterback Devin Leary, who joined the program in the offseason after transferring from NC State, did not make any of the four All-SEC Teams despite being tabbed as a Top 10 QB in college football for the 2023 season by On3. Also of note, former Kentucky defensive lineman Justin Rogers, who transferred to Auburn in January, was tabbed Third-Team Defense.
