94 Kentucky student-athletes make SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll

First-year Wildcats had an excellent year in the classroom during the 2021-22 sports seasons.

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey announced on Thursday that a total of 94 University of Kentucky student-athletes earned a spot on the 2021-22 Southeastern Conference First-Year Academic Honor Roll, which was third-most in the conference. Just a day prior on Wednesday, 121 UK student-athletes were tabbed to the 2022 Southeastern Conference Spring Sports Academic Honor Roll, fifth-most in the conference.

According to UK’s press release, the school saw five sports finish among the SEC’s top three.

  • Baseball had the second most in the league in that sport with 18 honorees
  • Gymnastics tied for second most in the conference with four honorees.
  • Men’s tennis tied for second in the league with two honorees.
  • Women’s track and field tied for third in the league 10 honorees.
  • Women’s soccer tied for second in the league with nine honorees.

Among the more notable names to make the first-year Honor Roll include men’s basketball players Oscar Tshiebwe and CJ Fredrick, football quarterback Will Levis, softball player Alexia Lacatena, and volleyball player Emma Grome.

In order to qualify for the First-Year Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must’ve been enrolled during the 2021 summer and fall terms in addition to the 2022 spring semester. They were also required to maintain at least a 3.0 GPA throughout the school year.
