A Malik Monk feature that's worth your time

Malik Monk after UNC We're big fans of Mark Titus, the former Ohio State walk-on turned author at Grantland and now The Ringer, Bill Simmons' new venture; articles like the one I'm about to share are why. This morning, Titus gave us his take on Malik Monk's 47-point performance vs. North Carolina, and you should stop what you're doing and check it out because it's pretty great. Here's one of my favorite parts:

He embodies the philosophy that the only thing that matters at the end of the game is the score, and since you can’t get points from doing things other than putting the ball in the basket, there’s no point in wasting time doing them. I’m terrified that he’ll go 3-for-19 in a huge game this season (like Wednesday night’s matchup at Louisville), but screw it – I’ll still proudly serve as the president of the Monk fan club. After all, his skill is only part of the story. There’s also the fact that he has his own last name tattooed on his left triceps. Oh, and there’s this tidbit from his bio on the official Kentucky athletic department website:

“[Monk] chose his jersey number because ‘on the fifth day of the Creation, God made the animals’ and he loves learning about animals.”

I’m in love with an 18-year-old, and I don’t care who knows it.

Titus hits on a great point about Monk; in everything he does in life, he's so frank, whether it be hitting shots or answering questions. There's absolutely no hesitation or overthinking. What are you thankful for this year? "Basketball." What's cuter, baby goats or baby kittens? "Baby kittens." What's the best way someone can guard you? "Foul." Never change, Malik.
